Ode to Ole

Dear Ole,

I don’t think you’d ever know, but you have played a huge part in influencing the way I play soccer. Breaking barriers, your tireless running, humility and selfless work rate have impacted me in my life as a whole. You are a role model, mine. On the pitch there is no one else that comes close. Thank you, for everything you’ve done for me, for everything you’ve done for Manchester United, for your squad mates, for your fans. You'll go down in history as one of the legends of Old Trafford.

“who put the ball in the Germans’ net?
who put the ball in the Germans’ net?
who put the ball in the Germans’ net?
Ole Gunner Solskjaer!”

Don't look back in anger

To: All who are guilty of

Please, please, please stop treating me like a rag doll; showering me with attention when you want to be happy, and tearing me apart when you need someone to vent your anger on.
Please, stop treating me like shit.

sorry guys for the negativity, it's been a tiring day...

Wembley

Last night was a stern reminder to all Man Utd fans; All true blue United fans who can proudly proclaim themselves as Red Devils (Red always triumphs blue).

It was a match that broke beyond the restraints of the pitch and into the hearts and spirits of United fans around the world. It condemned the United fans who had a betting ticket in one hand, and a dagger on the other. Now, we shall “make some more test of your(fans) mettle”. Ask yourself fan, and choose your next words wisely, is it red you wear on the inside, or green? Is your passion in blood or in money?

Interestingly enough, Alvyn is the only other person I know who supports Man Utd and doesn’t bet on soccer. Without any motive at the back of our heads, we still manage to reach apexes of joy, extreme ends of intensity, abysmal sorrow and heart felt passion during every 90 minute Man Utd match. Now that’s what I call true passion, true belief, true fanatics, true fans.

To quote Alvyn, “I salute you my fellow friend as we journey thru this hard time”.

No doubt it’s been a bad spell for the team thus far. Worst start for defending champions in the history of the EPL. 2 points in 3 games. 1 goal in 3 games. Rooney out. Ronaldo suspended. Solskjaer, Saha, Neville and Park all out injured. Heinze’s future undecided.

It is the most spectacular sight I’ve seen in seasons. Prepare for the treble. Prepare for glory.

Red Devils of the world unite.
We have 3 more trophies to win.

Week 1 EPL 07/08

Alright! The English Premier League is back in full force again, and what an amazing display of the beautiful game, I must say. It was spectacular, emphatic, and brilliant, all in the confinement of pockets of 90 minutes around the country. Ah yes, you can probably tell that I have missed the premiership so dearly. Good bye Friday night S-league!
Anyway, I guess I won’t comment on some of the matches, since I either, well, don’t care, or am too sad to say anything about it. Good on the Magpies for a dream start to the season! 3-1! I think it goes beyond the wildest dreams of Sam Alladyce. There is a certain confidence growing in the Newcastle squad this season, and it was clearly evident during their game play against worthy opponents like Bolton. Congratulations too, goes out to Sunderland, the new kids (errr actually not really) on the block. I only have 2 words to say about their win.

Roy Keane.

One thing about Man Utd I’d notice (other than the scoreline which did not reflect the one-sidedness of the match…..73% possession, 25 shots, people), was a unique discipline which I’d not really spotted before. It did not come from the field, but from the bench. I saw the substitute and injured players all present, all donning the same attire, all intensely watching the match, all present and accounted for, Sir! Sir Alex, to be exact. Solskjaer, Gary Neville, Saha, Nani, Fletcher, O’Shea, Hargreaves all watching over the playing squad, as if guardian angels. I remember feeling quite inspired then.

I remembered 98/99.

Even on the field, as well as off, there was a distinct respect from the red devils given to both the manager and the club. A refreshing discipline which did not scream (although I would love the see the hair-dryer treatment on Mourihno and friends).

This is our treble season.

We lucky few, we band of brothers

Alvyn, Kelvin and Wei Kee, this post is addressed to you guys! It’s a proposal for the journey on our Eurotrip!!! I know you guys (don’t know about wei kee though) haven’t watched Band of Brothers yet, but please, please do watch it before we make our plans to go wherever. I assure you that after watching it, your decision on where to go might change. So anyway, I was thinking of re-tracing the route of the 101st Airborne Paratroopers E company, except for the part in America. So here it goes:

• Wiltshire County, Aldbourne, England
• Normandy, France
• Cherbourg, France
• Eindhoven, Arnhem, Veghel, Zon, Mourmelon (All Holland)
• Bastogne, Belgium
• Noville, Switzerland (Kelvin!!)
• Alsace, France
• Ruhr, Germany
• Berchtesgaden (In the Alps!)

Ok I know it might seem rather ambitious and freaking expensive, but I was thinking, if we’re gonna go on a euro(hello?!)trip, might as well make it the most kick ass one ever taken by four 20 year old Singaporean whiny kids. I guess the main mode of transport would be rail, or bus if possible, though we’d have to check it out and plan it properly.

Anyway I hope you don’t get the wrong idea that those are the ONLY places I’m proposing we go. I was thinking more of like a country specific. For example, we’d go to England, and one of the places we’d have to visit is Aldbourne. Then comes Oxford and London and etc etc. So it’s like in Germany we could go to Frankfurt or Berlin, but we’d also have to go to the Ruhr and stuff like that. I don’t know, but what do ya’all think of semi-backpacking? Alvyn, stop screaming.

I know it seems a real mean feat, but think of if we’d managed to achieve it, to go on this spectacular journey that spans some 4 countries or more. Think of it, guys. It’s probably gonna be our only one chance in our entire lives to do this. After this lull period it’s uni, and then work life, and then married life, and then kids life, and then retirement life.

Trust me, when you have finished watching all 10 episodes of Band of Brothers, you might be swayed to turn this way.

One chance, guys.
